W&M Closed Friday, Feb. 21, resuming normal operations at 5 p.m. for the weekend

The Emergency Management Team sent the following emails to campus in February 2025 regarding a winter storm (Kingston) – Ed.

Feb. 20, 2025 – 2:31 p.m.

Dear William & Mary community,

Due to the impacts from Winter Storm Kingston, William & Mary will remain closed Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 until 5 p.m. and resume normally scheduled operations at that time.

This means the provost has cancelled classes for Friday and university offices will remain closed through 5 p.m. Essential employees should consult with their supervisors and may be required to report to campus. Non-essential employees will not have access to offices or campus until 5 p.m. on Friday as Facilities Management employees continue snow removal and address other potential hazards. To ensure safety, access to buildings will be restricted. Per university policy, teleworking is not required during the closure.

Resuming operations at 5 p.m. on Friday will be university events and student-centered services including Swem Library, the Sadler Center and the Campus Recreation Center (check their respective websites for hours of operation). As always, check for updates to dining services at  W&M Dining website Employees scheduled to work after 5 p.m. on Friday (essential and non-essential) should coordinate with their supervisors. Given varying road conditions across our area, liberal leave will be in effect.

Members of the William & Mary Law School community can expect separate communication from administrators at the law school.

Snow removal on campus is underway. Crews will be addressing major pathways and the largest parking lots first. If you see an area of particular concern – downed tree limb or the like, please report it to facilities management at workor@wm.edu

Please continue to use extra caution on campus due to slippery conditions and the potential for falling icicles. Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Freezing temperatures with harsh wind chills are expected throughout the evening and into the weekend. Limiting exposure to outside temperatures is recommended. State officials have also requested that individuals avoid vehicular travel if possible. As a resource, VDOT 511 map provides regular updates on area road conditions.
