Anne Roemer selected as CHRO
Executive Vice President Mike Todd sent the following message to faculty and staff on Sept. 3, 2025. – Ed.
W&M colleagues,
I am delighted to announce Anne E. Roemer, currently deputy chief human capital officer for NASA, will join William & Mary as chief human resources officer. Beginning in November, Anne will assume leadership of the many areas within University Human Resources including employee relations, talent engagement and recruiting, human resources information services, business partners, and more.
Before becoming deputy chief in 2023, Anne spent five years as director of the human resources office of the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Prior to that, she held a fascinating role leading the agency’s Astronaut Selection Office through two selection cycles in 2017 and 2021. She also managed the Human Capital Transformation Project at NASA Headquarters from 2014 through 2017, in addition to other leadership roles.
All told, Anne brings to William & Mary over two decades of human resources experience and strengths in areas critical during this time of transformation, progress, and growth at William & Mary. She stood out in the national pool with her strategic and thoughtful approach to HR leadership. She has deep experience building high performing teams and leading change in support of an organization that conducts world-class research and delivers cutting-edge educational programs.
Particularly notable are her accomplishments establishing an agency-wide approach to human capital management, reshaping NASA’s service delivery model, and deploying human resources business partners throughout the agency. I invite you to learn more about her experience at W&M News.
I thank Debi Jarvis for leading University Human Resources on an interim basis since June and through the launch of Workday; we are grateful for her steady hand through this transition. I also thank our search committee for their hard work and insightful candidate assessment: Josh Burk, Carrie Cooper, Daniel Ogunyemi, Carlane Pittman-Hampton, Debbie Ratliff, and Richard Whitmore, as well as Pamela Carroll for exceptional search support.
The work of UHR affects the careers of every single one of us, as well as our ability to attract talented new colleagues. I am certain that Anne will advance the university in this key role. She brings the vision and expertise to ensure William & Mary continues to recruit, retain, and support the outstanding faculty and staff who make this university thrive. Please join me in welcoming Anne to the university.
Yours in William & Mary success,
Mike Todd
Executive Vice President
