Upcoming Changes to Campus Notifications – Effective Nov. 3rd.

Dear William & Mary Community-

William & Mary is implementing updates to our campuswide notification system to enhance safety and improve communication. Beginning Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, messages from the university’s mass notification system will be identified as either TribeAlerts or WM_Info. These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to keeping you informed through Rave Mobile Safety, our tiered, multi-platform alerting system. Below are the details.

What’s Changing?

We’re refining how alerts are categorized and delivered to ensure clarity and consistency.

Notifications will now be clearly labeled as either TribeAlerts or WM_Info.

TribeAlerts – Emergency Notifications

Used for immediate threats to life, such as active shooter or active threat; fire, bomb threat, hazardous materials; tornado warnings; severe incident at Dominion Energy Surry Power Station

Key Features:

  • Alerts will begin with keywords like Emergency, Critical, or Urgent to prevent spam filtering.
  • The phrase “TribeAlert” will be included in all emergency messages.
  • An All-Clear Alert will be issued once the situation is resolved.

WM_Info – Operational Notifications

Used for non-life-threatening but impactful events, such as:

Weather-related campus closures, delays, or reopenings.

Key Features:

  • Messages will come from 757-891-6933
  • The phrase “WM_Info” will be included
  • You may opt out by replying STOP to any WM_Info message
