The Values in Action Awards recognize leaders on the William & Mary campus who embody the university’s values of belonging, excellence, flourishing, integrity, respect and service. These awards, established by two anonymous donors and funded with private funds, are awarded in the fall and spring semesters, with individuals receiving $2,500 and student organizations $500 each.

Selected from nominees across the university, staff and faculty recipients are:

• Sheray Prosser, custodian for Facilities Management
• Rolanda Frazier, production cook in Dining Services

Sheray Prosser

Prosser is a “beautiful soul that brings light to Kaplan Arena,” one nominator wrote. A custodian for female locker rooms in the arena, Prosser has been a member of the facilities team for the past two years. She is also responsible for the field hockey center, and another nominator said her work ethic there has earned the respect of everyone.

Prosser was overwhelmed when she learned she was the recipient of the Values in Action award. Her daughter, who graduates from high school this year, is planning to attend William & Mary. Prosser is looking forward to the university having as big an impact on her daughter as it did on her.

“She encourages us to be kind to each other just by simply showing us her genuine, kind ways,” wrote one nominator. “She has gone above and beyond to prove she cares about each and every one of us as people.”

Prosser says she loves all students and treats everyone like they’re family.

“Some students come so far away from home and need that good, uplifting life,” she said. “I truly enjoy working with them.”

Rolanda Frazier

When Rolanda Frazier learned that she had won a Values in Action award, she thought she was being pranked.

“I really didn’t believe it for two or three weeks,” she said. “It was unbelievable. I’m very honored and humbled.”

Frazier is a lead cook for Dining Services. Over the past 11 years, she has progressed from cook to production cook to lead cook.

No matter her position, Frazier has always been passionate about her relationships with students. Through her work, she fosters the values of belonging and flourishing, said nominators.

One family even let Frazier know that her attentiveness was a top reason their daughter chose to go to William & Mary.

“I try to treat these kids like I would treat my own kids,” she said. “I have kids their age, so I understand.”
