Men’s basketball tips off CAA tournament play on Sunday

William & Mary Men’s Basketball garnered a double bye in the 2025 Jersey Mike’s CAA Championship and will open play as the No. 4 seed on Sunday, March 9.
Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. from Care First Arena in Washington, D.C., and the game will be broadcast on FloCollege with Matt Janus and Monika Moore on the call.
The Tribe will face one of three opponents — No. 5 seed Campbell, No. 12 Delaware or No. 13 Stony Brook — in the CAA Quarterfinals. The Blue Hens and Seawolves open the tournament on Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. with the winner facing the Camels on Saturday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. The Green and Gold draws the winner of that second-round match-up on Sunday.
Fans can listen into the Tribe Sports Network with Jay Colley and Brandon Britt ’14 on the call. The Tide 92.3 FM in Williamsburg in the flagship station of the Tribe Sports Network.

W&M news and notes
- The Tribe is the No. 4 seed in the CAA Tournament for the fifth time and first since 2019. W&M advanced to the semifinals on two occasions as the No. 4 seed in 2017 and 2018. The Green and Gold has won a game in eight of its last 11 CAA Tournaments.
- This season marks the 10th time that the Tribe has been a top four seed in the CAA Tournament. W&M is 8-9 as a top four seed in the tournament, including two wins at the No. 4 seed. Three of the Tribe’s four CAA Championship game appearances came as a top-four seed.
- As of March 4, W&M ranks 19th nationally in record improvement (8.0 games) from 2023-24 to this season and sixth in terms of conference record improvement (7.0 games). The Tribe is one of four teams in the country to win four or fewer league games in 2023-24 and have 11 or more conference wins this season.
- The Tribe’s 17 victories this season rank 12th in school history. It marks just the 15th time in the 119-year history of Tribe basketball that the program won 17 or more games. W&M’s CAA win total marks the seventh time in 40 years of CAA basketball that it won 11 or more league games.
- W&M head men’s basketball coach Brian Earl was named a finalist for the 2024-25 Hugh Durham Award by CollegeInsider.com. The award is presented annually to the top mid-major head coach in college basketball. Earl was one of 25 coaches nationally and one of two in the CAA to earn a spot on the finalist list along with Towson’s Pat Skerry.
- Senior Gabe Dorsey is known for his ability to shoot, ranking among the national leaders throughout his career. This season, he ranks seventh nationally in 3FG% (44.6), 10th in total 3-pointers (99), and 16th in 3-pointers made per game (3.19). In CAA play, Dorsey led the league at 47.3% from 3-point range. Last season, he ranked fourth nationally in total 3-pointers made (113) and sixth in 3-pointers per game (3.4) after coming in fourth in the country in 3-point % (44.4) in 2022-23.
- On Senior Day, Caleb Dorsey scored a career-high tying 20 points on 7-of-7 from the field and 5-of-5 at the free throw line against Northeastern. It marked the 14th time in school history that a Tribe player made seven field goals without a miss. The number ranks as the sixth-best total in school history, behind the record of 10-of-10. Over the last four games, Dorsey is averaging 11.8 points per game, shooting 51.5% (17-of-33) from the field.
- The Tribe totaled a D1 season-high 12 steals against Northeastern on March 1. On the year, W&M posted 223 steals, which ranks fourth in school history. The Green and Gold ranked second in CAA games in steals per game at 7.4 per contest. Overall, the Tribe has forced opponents into 12.9 turnovers per game, which ranks third in the CAA.
- Brian Earl-coached teams are known among the fastest paced in the country. According to KenPom.com, W&M ranks 22nd nationally in adjusted tempo (71.4) and third in shortest average possession length (14.9). In CAA game, the Tribe leads the league in both categories.
- Junior Chase Lowe has made it a habit of stuffing the stat sheet. He is one of 55 players in the country to average five rebounds, three assists, and a steal per game. Lowe is one of just three in the CAA to reach those numbers. He ranks 11th in the league in assists and 23rd in rebounds.
- Freshman Isaiah Mbeng, who is a two-time CAA Rookie of the Week selection, leads the Tribe and ranks among the CAA leaders in assists (seventh at 3.4), assist-to-turnover ratio (fifth at 2.06), and steals (10th at 1.4). He is also one of the top freshmen in the country, coming in fourth nationally among rookies in a/t ratio, 13th in assists, and 16th in steals, as of March 4.
- The Tribe has scored 41.4% (998-of-2409) of its points off the bench and is averaging 32.2 points per game, which ranks ninth nationally. W&M relies on its bench for significant minutes as well and ranks 21st nationally in % of minutes played off the bench (39.9%) according to KenPom.com.
- Three-point shooting has been a key piece of Earl’s offense, and W&M is one of the top teams in the country from distance this season. Nationally, the Tribe is third in % of field goal attempts from 3 (51.6%), eighth in 3’s attempted (29.9), 12th in % of scoring from 3 (39.9%), and 14th in 3-pointers made (10.5).
- W&M surpassed the 500-assist mark for the sixth time in school history in 2024-25. The Tribe’s 513 assists are fourth on the program’s single-season list. W&M ranks 28th nationally in assists at 16.5 per game and is 13th in the country in assist rate, assisting on 61.7% of its made field goals.
- The Tribe is one of the top shooting team in the country, ranking among the top 50 nationally in effective field goal % and 2-point field goal %. Thanks to its 3-point shooting prowess, W&M ranks 47th nationally with an effective goal % of 54.8%. According to KenPom.com, the Tribe is 24th in the country, shooting 56.6% from 2-point range.
- The Tribe has used a balanced attack this season. In total, 12 different players have scored in double figures in a game, which is the fourth most in the country and most in the CAA. Ten different players are averaging nearly five points per game, and nine have led W&M in scoring in a game this season.
- Senior Gabe Dorsey has scored 17 or more points in six of the Tribe’s last eight games. In CAA play, he upped his average to 14.4 per contest, which ranks 16th in the league. Dorsey ranks 28th in W&M history in scoring (1,151 points) and is just 13 away from 27th.
- Gabe Dorsey moved into second place on W&M’s career 3-pointers list passing David Schneider ’10. He currently ranks 27th among active D1 players in career 3-pointers (290) and is six shy of the top 10 in CAA history. Dorsey is W&M’s career leader in 3’s per game (3.24). His 99 3-pointers this season rank third in program history and are just four away from the CAA’s single-season top 10.
- Mbeng became the fourth freshman in W&M history to dish out 100 assists in his rookie season. His 105 assists rank third all-time among Tribe freshmen and 24th overall in school history.
