FAQ regarding federal policy changes
The following message was sent to the W&M community from President Katherine A. Rowe – Ed.
Dear William & Mary faculty, staff, and students,
As Provost Agouris and Senior VP Ambler recently shared, William & Mary is actively tracking proposed federal grant policies and other directives with the potential to impact our university. The rapid pace of these policy changes creates understandable uncertainty. To keep our community informed about the evolving landscape, we have begun collecting information in an FAQ page.
Several principles will guide our response as we navigate these changes:
- William & Mary’s values-based mission of teaching, learning, and research depends on a community free from bias, disruption, and barriers. Who comes here belongs here.
- As a university pursuing these public goods, we strive to provide the most accurate information we can, to empower thoughtful, measured responses from our community. We ask you to do the same: send us questions or comments and help us fight misinformation. Please email federalguidelines@wm.edu.
- We will continue to consult with those most affected to understand how best to maintain continuity of work.
- We will continue to partner with peer institutions, sharing potential impacts with state leaders.
As to the rhythm of updates: you should be able to stay abreast of what we are learning if you check the FAQ page on the first and 15th of each month.
Especially at this time, I hold great faith in our future. William & Mary endures steady and strong because of our mission, values, and people.
With gratitude for all that you do to ensure excellence here,
– Katherine
