Summer 2024 Emergency Notification System Test
The following message was sent to the campus community on June 10, 2024 from the William & Mary Emergency Management Team – Ed.
Dear William & Mary Community –
The university will conduct a test of its emergency notification system Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., including the PA function of the siren system.
The university sends its emergency communications through RAVE which provides the flexibility to communicate via email and text (“TribeAlert”) and, for the most urgent situations, through the emergency sirens on campus and Alertus on your computer.
Any time you hear the emergency sirens outside of a test you should check immediately for information and instructions at www.wm.edu
If you have not yet enrolled in the system, you may do so through the contact form in Banner.
More to Know
- RAVE. This system is used in cases of a campus-wide emergency, instances of natural disaster, or for inclement weather closings.
- The system uses multiple channels to create redundancy with the aim of ensuring that each member of the community is reached through at least one channel. The channels are not all intended to reach everyone simultaneously.
- To ensure you receive these alert messages, your personal mobile number should be listed first in the emergency alerts section of your Banner profile.
- William & Mary tests this system at the beginning of each of the fall and spring semesters as well as once over the summer including its nine – speaker siren system.
- Reminder. All RAVE test and active messages will come from the following email: wm@email.getrave.com Add this address to your contacts to ensure delivery.
- Resources.
- Emergency Response Guide – All emergency guide resources are available in the free W&M Mobile app
- Emergency Operations Plan
- In the event of an emergency on campus, use 911 or the mobile, “Blue Light in your pocket” functionality currently provided through the Rave Guardian app
- Ways to Stay Connected. You may also follow emergency news through the William & Mary News Facebook and “X” (formerly known as Twitter) pages as well as the free W&M mobile app
- Review. All members of the William & Mary community should annually review the information they have submitted for emergency notifications in Banner.
Thank you for your cooperation.
